England captain Joe Root has been simply unstoppable this year. Even in the ongoing test series between India and England, the English skipper has never had a bad knock and he proved his mettle once again in the third match by scoring a phenomenal century in the first innings. However, even the biggest devils do bleed and so did Joe Root, but only after securing his hundred, i,e, after the damage was done.

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Joe Root with a peach delivery that turned inside after falling at good length and the England captain’s impenetrable defense finally cracked as the new ball hit the wickets straight. Joe Root thus departed after a superb ODI-styled knock of 121 off 165. However, it was too late for India as mentioned earlier because the damage was already done. England had already set up a mammoth first innings score and had established a firm lead of over 300 runs. The match had already slipped out of the hands of the visitors and thus Root’s departure after his century wouldn’t matter much. Maybe that was why Jasprit Bumrah was not seen celebrating after picking up Root’s wicket.

As it now stands, England currently have a lead of 345 runs at stumps on Day 2. India will look to dismiss the English tailenders as soon as they can and come on to bat immediately. The Blues must target a 500+ total if they want to remain in the game. If , however, the blues’ batting order once again tumbles down like it did in the first innings, India must be prepared for an unfathomable defeat.
