The ongoing 5-match T20 series between Bangladesh and Australia turned into a cracking thriller when the mighty Aussies got beaten at the hand of the hosts in the first two matches. The Bengal Tigers would seal the series to their name by winning the third match of the series and boy did they do so. And that too, in the most thrilling fashion in the very last over. They have thus beaten Australia using the home advantage which will greatly add to their confidence ahead of the much anticipated T20 World Cup which is set to start in October.

In the third match which was played last night at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. Bangladesh’s pitches are pretty infamous for their low run-scoring traits and this match was no different. The hosts were off to an awful start after both their openers got packed up cheaply. Mohammad Naim and Soumya Sarkar scored 1 and 2 runs respectively. Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah then took charge of their innings and made sure that they reached a defendable total. Their partnership was life-saving for Bangladesh. Shakib Al Hasan played a responsible knock of 26 off 17 and gave good support to their captain Mahmudullah who went on to score 52 off 53. Thanks to their contribution, Bangladesh could reach a total of 127/9.
Coming on to chase, Australia lost one of their openers Matthew Wade early on as he departed after scoring just 1 run. Ben McDermott (35 off 41) and in-form Mitchell Marsh then played a great partnership (51 off 47) but failed to keep a check on the asking rate. Thus, when they departed and Alex Carey and Dan Christian were given the responsibility to win the match for Australia, they failed to do so.

However, Mustafizur Rahman deserves great credit for the same. He came in to bowl his final spell in the 19th over of the match. Australia then required 23 runs to win the match. However, Mustafizur Rahman had other plans as he conceded just 1 run in the penultimate over of the match! That pretty much ended Australia’s hopes of winning the match and assured Bangladesh the series win. Mustafizur Rahman might not have picked up a wicket but he was crazy economical. His economy last night was of 2.25 and he conceded just runs in his 4 overs.
