Test match without sledging is pointless. Sledging adds to the intensity of a match and heightens the excitement of the fans. So far, the ongoing test series between India and England has missed this element but as the series progresses, the players are getting more and more personal and aggressive with their war-of-words. Especially in the second test, we have seen a complete mood shift in both the teams and it is adding to the excitement of the match.

It all started with English fans throwing Champagne bottle corks at KL Rahul while he was fielding near the boundary line on Day 3. It was till then restricted to the fans but starting from Day 4, players from both the sides have started sledging and hurling abuses and taunts at each other to get under their skin. Till day 3, India’s Mohammad Siraj had been the only player who was getting aggressive in between the overs.

The rivalry between Virat Kohli and James Anderson was expected to be the centre of attraction of the India-England test series for a long time. The fans could not see much of it in the first match but the two players finally got into a heated argument on Day 4 and the fans went berserk on social media.

During India’s second innings, England pacer Jimmy Anderson was evidently trying to infuriate Virat Kohli by taunting him. The Indian skipper was quiet for a long time but at last he could not control himself and burst out at the pacer with a savage response.

“You are swearing at me? Like you did to Bumrah?. This isn’t your backyard,” Kohli was heard saying to Jimmy Anderson.
“Chirp, chirp and chirp. This is what old age makes you,” he added.
