Gujarat Titans’ total of 198 proved more than sufficient on a tacky Eden Gardens surface in Kolkata on Monday, as Kolkata Knight Riders faltered early, losing two wickets inside the powerplay and eventually finding themselves staring at a daunting 91 needed off the final six overs.
Leading from the front was skipper Shubman Gill, whose masterful 90 off 55 balls — laced with 10 boundaries and three towering sixes — anchored the Titans’ charge.
Gill’s innings didn’t start with fireworks, but once he got going, there was no stopping him. The turning point came in the seventh over, when he took 10 off the first two deliveries of Moeen Ali’s third over. Then came the shot that silenced doubters and stunned the field — and Ajinkya Rahane in particular.
With the off-side ring packed and Moeen following the plan with a wide delivery flirting with the tramline, Gill showcased his elegance and reach.
Brilliant cricket all around 👏

It required a special catch to end Shubman Gill's fabulous innings of 90(55) !!pic.twitter.com/oj7RuOTs2T
Stretching out, he whipped his wrists with sublime timing to thread the ball through midwicket for a boundary — a shot as audacious as it was effortless. Moeen could only watch in disbelief, outfoxed by a stroke that epitomized Gill’s growing aura.

The rest of the innings followed the same tone — composed dominance. Unsurprisingly, Twitter lit up with admiration, hailing the young opener as the undisputed ‘Prince’ of Indian cricket.
