It took Ishan Kishan just one ball to prove why he was picked in today’s team over so many alternatives. Facing the first ball on his ODI debut, he showed his class by hitting a huge six against Dhananjaya de Silva to make an immediate impact. Pure class by the Mumbai Indians batsman. Ishan Kishan is the epitome of the next-gen players (which includes the likes of Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant) who like to play with an open mind by not caring about being dismissed and that is exactly what the youngster did today.

After winning the toss, Sri Lanka opted to bat first in the first ODI between them and India. The Lankans, although they did not cross the 300 runs mark, put up a pretty decent target of 262. The spin duo of Kuldeep yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal did wonders for India as they picked up a total of 4 wickets in the early half of the game (2 wickets each), pushing Sri Lanka on the backfoot. Deepak chahar also took 2 wickets in his 7 overs. Overall, India’s bowling unit was successful in containing Sri Lanka’s batsmen and it was now the Indian batsmen’s turn to do them justice which they rightfully did.

Prithvi Shaw stepped on the field and chose violence from the very first ball he faced. The aggressive opener departed early, but only after he had made 42 runs in just 24 balls. In at three Ishan Kishan chose the same ideology of Prithvi Shaw and even bettered it. The Mumbai Indians batsman opened his ODI books with a gigantic six and stunned the Sri Lankan bowlers leaving an immediate impact. India have currently scored 92 runs in 11 overs.
