The ninth match of the Women’s Premier League 2023 (WPL 2023) was played between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Giants (DC vs GG). The two teams faced each other at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Gujarat Giants won the toss and chose to bat first, scoring 105 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

In response, Delhi’s team achieved the target in just 7.1 overs, winning the match by 10 wickets. This is the third loss for the Meg Lanning-led team in the tournament, while Delhi recorded their fourth win.

After winning the toss, captain Sneh Rana decided to bat first. However, the captain’s decision did not prove to be in favor of the team. The performance of the players while batting first was very poor. Half the team returned to the pavilion after scoring just 31 runs before the first playoff. However, Kim Garth remained the highest run-scorer for Gujarat, scoring 32 runs.

Apart from them, Georgia Wareham (22), Harleen Deol (20), and Tanuja Kanwar (13) were able to touch the half-century mark. Except for these four batters, no other player was able to score in double digits. Marizanne Kapp took five wickets for Delhi. Meanwhile, Shikha Pandey took three wickets and Radha Yadav took one wicket. After this performance, the team had to face trolling on social media.

In response, Delhi Capitals put up a spectacular batting display and achieved the target in less than 10 overs. Opening batswomen Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning shared a century partnership to seal the win for the team.

While Verma played a blistering unbeaten knock of 76 runs, Lanning scored 21 runs off just 15 balls before getting out. On the other hand, the Gujarat bowlers failed to make any impact with their bowling. With the explosive innings from Lanning and Verma, Delhi scored 107 runs in just 7.1 overs without losing any wicket.
