MS Dhoni will mentor team India for the upcoming T20 World Cup, says BCCI secretory Jay Shah

India have announced their 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 world Cup to be held at UAE this year between October and November. Virat Kohli will lead the men in blue along with deputy Rohit Sharma. The tournament will begin from 17 October in UAE and Oman. The qualifiers will begin from 17 October while the main tournament is set to begin from 23rd October.

Team India Playing XI: Virat Kohli [Captain], Rohit Sharma [Vice-Captain], KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Chahar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami. Standby players-Shardul Thakur, Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Chahar.

The selection of the squad is not just based upon good performances in IPL but it also includes the performances in the international matches.

The tournament will have a total of 45 matches with the final set to be played on 14th November.
The T20 World Cup was originally scheduled to begin from 2020 but due to the Covid-19 pandemic the world Cup is postponed to 2021.

Ravichandran Ashwin made a comeback to the Indian squad after four years. However, the Indian cricket board had another surprise in their arsenal.

BCCI secretory Jay Shah announced that former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni will mentor team India for the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held at UAE and Oman.

The latest Tweet by ANI states, “Former India Captain MS Dhoni to mentor the team for the T20 World Cup: BCCI Honorary Secretary Jay Shah”.


MS Dhoni was a part of the first ever t20 international match. Dhoni made his debut against South Africa in Dec 2006. He made his captaincy debut against Scotland. He led India to the first ever T20 World Cup Trophy in South Africa.
